Types of Working Holiday Visa

There are three types of Working Holiday visa Subclass 417:

a) First Working holiday visa

In the first category of Working Holiday visa, you must apply for this visa from outside Australia and:

  • you must have a passport from an eligible country
  • you must be between 18 and 30 years old except for Canadian, Irish, and French passport holders (18 and 35 years old) 
  • must not be accompanied by dependent children
  • must have sufficient fund to support your stay in Australia
  • you should be medically fit
  • you should not have any criminal conviction

b) Second Working holiday visa

In the second category of Working Holiday visa, you must have completed 3 months of specified work while holding your first Working Holiday visa Subclass 417 and :

  • you must have a passport from an eligible country
  • you must be between 18 and 30 years old except for Canadian, Irish, and French passport holders (18 and 35 years old) 
  • must not be accompanied by dependent children
  • must have sufficient fund to support your stay in Australia
  • you should be medically fit
  • you should not have any criminal conviction

Being on the second term of your Working Holiday visa Subclass 417, you can still apply for the third term of Working Holiday visa. if you meet the eligibility criteria set by the Australian government.

c) Third Working holiday visa

In the third category of Working Holiday visa, you must have completed 6 months of specified work while holding your second Working Holiday visa Subclass 417 and :

  • you must have a passport from an eligible country
  • You must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity
  • You must be between 18 and 30 years old except for Canadian, Irish, and French passport holders who can be between 18 and 35. 
  • you should be medically fit
  • you should not have any criminal conviction

How long can I stay?

On every visa category, you can stay up to 12 months each which can be up to 36 months in total of three categories of Subclass 417.

What is the processing time?

The processing time for this visa is 30 to 45 days. It can vary depends on case to case basis.

Important Note: On a Working Holiday visa you must ensure that you can’t be employed by any one employer for more than six months. Also, you’re prohibited to engage with any study or course for more than four months.
