Who you can sponsor?

- orphaned grand chid
Sponsorship Eligibility
1. Sponsor your spouse, partner, or child
If you want to sponsor your spouse, partner, or child to become a resident of Canada, then you must ensure that:
- you will support them financially
- they don’t need social assistance from the government
You can’t sponsor your spouse, partner, or child if:
- your age is less than 18 years old
- you’re not a Permanent resident or a Canadian citizen or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act;
- you won’t live in Canada when the persons you want to sponsor become permanent residents
- you’re a temporary resident, that is you’re visiting, studying, or working in Canada on a visa or permit
- your permanent residence application is still in the process
- you don’t have enough money to support the persons you want to sponsor
Sponsorship Requirements
There are certain requirements to meet before sponsoring your spouse, partner, or dependent children:
a) Your spouse
your spouse must be :
- legally married to you
- at least 18 years old
b) Your common-law partner
Your common-law partner:
- isn’t legally married to you
- can be either sex
- is at least 18 years old
- has been living with you for at least 12 consecutive months, meaning you’ve been living together continuously for 1 year in a conjugal relationship, without any long periods apart
c) Dependent children
Children qualify as a dependent if:
- they’re under 22 years old
- they don’t have a spouse or common-law partner

2. Sponsor your parents and grandparents
If you want to sponsor your parents and grandparents to become a resident of Canada, then you must ensure that:
- you will support them and their dependants financially
- they don’t need social assistance from the government
You may not be able to sponsor your parents and grandparents if you:
- your age is less than 18 years old
- you’re not a Permanent resident or a Canadian citizen or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act;
- you won’t live in Canada when the persons you want to sponsor become permanent residents
- you’re a temporary resident, that is you’re visiting, studying, or working in Canada on a visa or permit
